Why We Offer Massage Therapy
PAIN SPREADS
Pain in the soft tissues can spread throughout the body because it causes protective muscle “guarding” in surrounding areas. Over time, tight, inflamed muscles suffer poor circulation and oxygenation and can develop adhesions which prevent muscles from lengthening completely. Small areas of pain called trigger points can also develop, often causing pain or tingling in other areas in the body. In some situations, tight muscles, tendons or ligaments can pinch nerves. These are called entrapments. Some people elect to receive surgery for these problems. With appropriate massage techniques, the cause of the pinch can be relaxed and the nerve will heal naturally. In these difficult instances, Dr. Thomas will provide specific instruction to the massage thereapists regarding appropriate techniques and will do the initial therapy himself.
THAI MASSAGE
We also offer Thai massage. Thai massage is an ancient and powerful method of bodywork that combines deep compressions, acupressure and passive yoga-like stretching. You will wear loose and comfortable clothing for this treatment. Please specify when booking if you would like a Thai massage.
